Whittier Union High School District’s five comprehensive high schools have been ranked in the top 20% of public high schools nationwide and the top third in California by U.S. News & World Report, reflecting the District’s commitment to doing Whatever It Takes to prepare students for college, careers, and life.

The rankings are based on six factors: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates.

“Our focus is on equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue their goals – whether that means attending college, entering a trade, or following another path to success,” Assistant Superintendent of Education Services Lilia Bozigian said. “We are committed to ensuring each student is prepared for the next step and supported in achieving their dreams.”

Whittier Union students benefit from a wide range of academic, career, and extracurricular opportunities. California Partnership Academies equip students with industry-relevant skills in fields such as architecture, engineering, automotive technology, business, culinary arts, health, and construction, offering both hands-on learning and internship opportunities.

Rigorous academic programs, including Advanced Placement (AP), honors courses, and dual enrollment with Río Hondo College, challenge students academically, while the Puente Program and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) provide additional college-readiness support through college visits, mentorships, and strategies for success.

Beyond the classroom, students can sharpen their leadership skills through Associated Student Body and Link Crew, express their creativity in music and performing arts, and join a wide array of academic, service, and social clubs. Each school also boasts championship-level athletics programs.

Whittier Union’s excellence has also been recognized through prestigious honors such as AVID National Demonstration Site designations, the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award, and the College Board AP Honor Roll.

“At Whittier Union, we ensure that every student is empowered with the skills they need to thrive,” Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo said. “We are honored to be named among the top schools in the nation and will continue to provide innovative programs that prepare students for success.”
