Whittier City School District Announces Dr. Raquel Gasporra as Next Superintendent
Whittier, California — The Whittier City School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the unanimous selection of Dr. Raquel Gasporra as the District’s next Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026, following the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Brad Mason.
Dr. Gasporra was selected following a comprehensive and highly competitive search process conducted in partnership with Education Leadership Services (ELS). The Board considered a strong pool of more than 40 applicants and engaged in a rigorous process that included gathering community-wide stakeholder input and several focus-group sessions, in-depth candidate screening, and multiple rounds of interviews. Dr. Gasporra emerged as the candidate who most closely aligns with the District’s leadership profile and long-term priorities.
Dr. Gasporra currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Business Services for the Whittier City School District, a position she has held since 2018. In this role, she provides executive leadership for all business and operational functions, including fiscal services, facilities, maintenance and operations, food services, and technology. She serves as a strategic advisor to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees on budget development, long-range financial planning, and organizational effectiveness, ensuring fiscal stability and alignment with district goals.
Dr. Gasporra also served, for over four years, as the WCSD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, where she led all aspects of personnel management, labor relations, and employee engagement. Her leadership included oversight of recruitment, retention, evaluation systems, and complex personnel matters, while fostering strong, collaborative relationships with labor partners.
Dr. Gasporra’s career in the Whittier City School District spans nearly three decades. She has served as Principal of Orange Grove Elementary School and as a classroom teacher, bringing a comprehensive understanding of both instructional leadership and district operations, grounded in a deep commitment to student success.
Dr. Gasporra holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from California State

University, Long Beach. She also holds a CASBO Chief Business Official Certification and is an active member of professional organizations including ACSA and CASBO. Dr. Gasporra is a graduate of the ACSA Superintendent Academy.
“Dr. Gasporra has almost 30 years of experience in our district. She is a highly respected leader and will bring her expertise in both instructional leadership and district operations,” said Board President Dr. Jennifer De Baca Sandoval. “Her deep commitment and knowledge of our school district and greater Whittier community, combined with her proven ability to lead our organization and build strong relationships, positions her exceptionally well as the next WCSD Superintendent.”
The Board also extends its deep appreciation to Superintendent Dr. Brad Mason for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service to the Whittier City community. His leadership has positioned the District for continued success and a well planned transition. The Board looks forward to the future under Dr. Gasporra’s leadership and remains committed to serving the students, staff, and families of our amazing district. The Board will take formal action to approve Dr. Gasporra’s contract during their next regularly scheduled meeting on May 12, 2026.
