PIH Health Whittier Hospital NICU Celebrates 50 Years of Neonatal Care with Reunion Event on November 9, 2024

Whittier, CA (November 19, 2024) – On Saturday, November 9, 2024, PIH Health Whittier Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special reunion event, bringing together former NICU graduates, their families, and caregivers. Established in 1974, the level 3 NICU has spent five decades providing specialized, lifesaving care to the area’s most vulnerable newborns, offering a lifeline to over 350 infants each year.

The NICU, which houses 34 beds including two isolation rooms, has long been a beacon of hope for families navigating the challenges of premature birth or medical complications. “Our NICU stands as a symbol of PIH Health’s commitment to excellence in neonatal care,” said Devang Patel MD, medical director of the NICU. “Our dedicated team works around the clock to ensure these delicate newborns receive the highest level of care when they need it most.”

The reunion event was a heartwarming celebration of the resilience of the NICU’s tiny graduates and the dedication of the healthcare professionals who have supported them. Attendees shared stories, reconnected with caregivers, and participated in family-friendly activities. The event served as a poignant reminder of the incredible strides made in neonatal care and the powerful journeys embarked upon by countless families over the past 50 years.
