Brings Families and Care Teams Back Together
Whittier, Calif. (April 23, 2026) – On Saturday, April 18, 2026, PIH Health Whittier Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) welcomed former NICU graduates, their families, and caregivers for a special reunion event celebrating the lasting impact of neonatal care in the community. The NICU provides a lifeline to more than 350 infants each year.
Established in 1974, the level 3 NICU has delivered specialized, lifesaving care to the area’s most vulnerable newborns for more than 50 years.
The NICU, which houses 34 beds including two isolation rooms, continues to be a source of hope for families facing premature birth or complex medical conditions. “It was incredibly meaningful to see so many of our former patients and their families,” said Devang Patel MD, medical director of the NICU. “Events like this highlight the resilience of these children and the lasting bonds between families and our care teams.”
The event featured family-friendly activities, opportunities to reconnect with caregivers, and moments of shared storytelling. For many families, it was a powerful reminder of how far their children have come and the critical role of compassionate, expert care in their earliest days.
The reunion also reflected PIH Health Whittier Hospital’s ongoing commitment to exceptional neonatal care and continued support for families beyond their time in the NICU.
