Unit Earns National Recognition for Quality and Outcomes

Whittier, Calif. (January 20, 2026) – PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit has been nationally recognized as a Top 6% Rehabilitation Hospital for 2025, based on data from the Uniform Data System (UDS), a nationally recognized benchmarking organization that evaluates inpatient rehabilitation facilities across the country. This prestigious designation places PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital among the highest-performing inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the nation.

The ranking is determined using the UDS Program Evaluation Model (PEM), which analyzes clinical, functional, and operational performance data from approximately 900 inpatient rehabilitation facilities nationwide. Facilities ranking in the top 6% are recognized for excellence in efficiency, effectiveness, and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.

“This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to clinical excellence and to helping our patients achieve the highest possible level of independence,” said Irena Zuanic DHA MSN RN, chief operating and chief nursing officer at PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital. “Our nursing teams and interdisciplinary caregivers work tirelessly to deliver compassionate, evidence-based rehabilitation care, and this national ranking is a testament to their dedication and expertise.”

Hospitals ranking in the top 6% typically demonstrate superior performance across key quality indicators, including higher-than-target discharge rates to the community, lower-than-target returns to acute care during rehabilitation stays, and strong outcomes in mobility, self-care, and functional attainment.

“Being recognized at a national level affirms the strength of our rehabilitation program and our focus on achieving meaningful outcomes for every patient we serve,” added Zuanic. “We are proud to provide care that is not only clinically effective, but also timely, efficient, and centered on the individual needs of our patients and their families.”

PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit continues to be a leader in delivering comprehensive inpatient care that supports recovery, restores function, and helps patients safely transition back to their communities.
