About Us
The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (LACSD) is a public agency dedicated to protecting public health and the environment through innovative, cost-effective wastewater and solid waste management. Headquartered in Whittier, California, LACSD is a partnership of 24 independent special districts serving approximately 5.5 million residents across 78 cities and unincorporated communities throughout Los Angeles County.
Since 1923, LACSD has planned, operated, and maintained the regional infrastructure that collects, treats, recycles, and manages wastewater and solid waste. The agency operates an extensive network of sewers, pumping plants, and wastewater treatment facilities that process hundreds of millions of gallons of wastewater each day.
Beyond waste management, LACSD is a recognized leader in resource recovery and sustainability. Through advanced water recycling, renewable energy generation, materials recovery, and organics processing programs, the agency transforms waste into valuable resources that benefit communities throughout Southern California. Its recycled water programs, green energy initiatives, and environmental stewardship efforts help strengthen regional water reliability, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support a more sustainable future.
Guided by a mission to protect public health and the environment, LACSD continues to invest in innovative solutions that safeguard natural resources, support economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for current and future generations.
