Public Stargazing at Río Hondo College Observatory!
Explore the night sky with our Meade 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, one of the largest telescopes in Southern California.
Important Details:
- The event is weather-dependent; clouds or rain will cancel.
- Arrive 10-15 minutes early. Park in Lot C and meet at the Child Development Center gate to walk up as a group.
- Late arrivals can walk up on their own.
- The uphill walk is a moderate ½ mile on a paved road. Wear comfortable shoes and pace yourself.
- No restrooms, vending machines, or water fountains at the observatory. Bring your own drinks and snacks, and please do not litter.
- Keep the observatory dark; flashlights are only needed for the walk down. No flash photography.
- The campus is a designated “Wildlife Habitat.” Stay alert for wildlife.
- No pets or smoking allowed due to fire danger, including e-cigarettes.
