Sara Cochran to Give Two Talks at Whittier Area Genealogical Society
Sara Cochran will be the featured speaker at the Whittier Area Genealogical Society’s monthly meeting. Sara holds a Bachelor Degree in Library Science/Liberal Arts and a Certificate of Genealogical Research from Boston University. She is a current member and former President of the Genealogical Society of Riverside.
At 11:00 a.m., Sara’s topic will be “Locating Records in Archives from Your Couch”. The digital age has brought billions of records into genealogists’ living rooms. However, there is much more only available in hardcopy. Learn how to track down these valuable resources, wherever they are in the world, without leaving the comfort of your own home.
At 12:00 p.m., there will be a one-hour break for lunch. At 1:00 p.m., there will be a brief business meeting, followed by Sara’s presentation on “Getting Around the Missing 1890 Census.” Census records have proven to be a treasure trove of information for genealogy – however the destruction of almost all of the 1890 Federal Census records by fire has created many obstacles for US researchers. Sara will be providing ways to overcome these obstacles. Learn about alternative ways of finding your ancestors between the 1880 and 1900 censuses.
